Hawks score 19 runs in sweeping Truman State

Rockhurst rolled to a 14-2 victory over Truman State to complete a doubleheader sweep Monday at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Baseball Complex. The Hawks rallied for a 5-4 victory in the opening game.

Garrett McNally ended the second game with a three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning. McNally led the Hawks with three hits and five RBIs.

The Hawks scored six runs on three hits and four walks in the third. Colby Smith singled home two runs and Noah Huston hit a two-run triple. Huston finished with two hits and four RBIs.

Rockhurst also scored six runs in the seventh with the help of three walks and an error. Alex Van Pelt had a two-run single before McNally's homer.

Junior right-hander Griffin Fletcher (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits in 6.0 innings.

In the first game, Luke Sosaya and Connor Ellefson hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh to power the Hawks past Truman. Sosaya tied the score at 4-4 with a two-run homer to left. Ellefson also went deep to left to give the Hawks the lead.

Ellefson posted three of the Hawks' 13 hits. Tommy Kraus, Huston, Van Pelt and Smith each had two hits. Smith and Van Pelt each had an RBI double.

Senior right-hander Daniel Kohl (1-1) held the Bulldogs scoreless over the final 3.2 innings.

Truman opened the three-game series with a 13-10 win over the Hawks on Saturday at Avila University. The Bulldogs scored 11 runs on three hits in the eighth inning.

The Hawks (7-19, 4-11 GLVC) play a doubleheader at William Jewell on Wednesday.
