Hawks drop two games at William Jewell

William Jewell held Rockhurst scoreless over the final seven innings in rallying for a 9-4 victory in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday in Liberty, Missouri.

The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning while collecting seven hits. Nathan Mark and Eric Kuse posted RBI singles, while Austin Polina drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder.

Jewell scored four runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead and added another four-run frame in the seventh.  The Cardinals held Rockhurst to two base runners over the final four innings.

Alex Van Pelt led the Hawks with three hits. Colby Smith added two hits. Freshman right-hander Claytin Noud (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits in 4.0 innings.

Jewell posted a 21-4 victory in the first game with the aid of nine walks, six hit batsmen and four errors. The Cardinals scored seven runs on four hits in the second and scored 14 runs in their final three at-bats.

Craig Straws, Luke Sosaya and Smith each had two hits. Michael Ruffolo and Van Pelt each had an RBI single.

The Hawks (7-21, 4-13 GLVC) play three games at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday and Sunday.
