The Rockhurst women's lacrosse team opened conference play with a big road win Saturday afternoon, defeating Westminster, 15-6, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Griffins took a 4-3 lead at the 10:54 mark of the first half, but the Hawks dominated the final 40 minutes, scoring 12 of the game's final 14 goals.
Marianna Anderson and
Logan Derosia tied for the game-high in goals with four.
Audrey Ford and
Hannah Miller each added three goals.
Anderson tallied three draw controls.
Jaylin Johnson caused four turnovers for the Hawks while Ford and
Bunga Spencer forced three apiece. Derosia collected a team-high six ground balls and three draw controls. Spencer added five ground balls. Ford, Ring and
Maddi Scheipeter each tallied four ground balls.
Molly Dunham posted 10 saves in goal for Rockhurst.
The Hawks outshot the Griffins 34-18 (25-16 on goal).
The win is Rockhurst's third straight and also their third consecutive game scoring 15 goals. The Hawks will look to keep the winning streak alive with weekday games at Fort Lewis College (Monday, 3:30 p.m.) and Colorado Mesa (Wednesday, 5:00 p.m.).
