Balanced attack leads Hawks to 83-73 win at home

Rockhurst shot 56.5 percent from the field in the second half in posting an 83-73 victory over Illinois Springfield Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks went on a 15-0 run from late in the first half to the 16:31 mark of the second half to take a commanding 47-33 lead. Springfield never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

"I was really happy with the way we guarded Springfield tonight," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "I have a lot of respect for their players and their coaching staff. They take care of the ball and have players who can make plays and play unselfish."

Springfield jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first eight minutes. Rockhurst closed the first half on a 17-7 run to take a 37-33 halftime lead.

"We opened up that game and were not very crisp offensively, but our defense allowed us to get some easy baskets which got us going a little bit," added Diener.

Four players scored in double figures to lead the Hawks (12-10, 6-6 GLVC) to their eighth home win of the season.
