Hawks fall at Drury; clinch berth in GLVC Tournament

Drury used an insurmountable run in the final 10 minutes to post a 79-71 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Missouri.

The Panthers went on a 17-2 run to rally from a 57-51 deficit to take a 68-59 lead with 3:31 left in the game. Eddie Muench earlier hit a pair of 3-pointers to cap a 12-0 run and give Rockhurst a six-point lead with 10:14 remaining.

Rockhurst made one final late run to pull within three points at 71-68 on a jumper by Curtis Lewis at the 1:00 mark. A 3-pointer by Drury's Andrew Ballock with the shot clock running out secured the Panther victory with 29 seconds left.

The loss leaves the Hawks at 16-11 overall and 10-7 in the GLVC with one regular season game left on Saturday afternoon at Missouri S&T. Rockhurst clinched a berth in the GLVC Tournament next week in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Hawks are tied with Missouri-St. Louis for sixth place in the GLVC Point Rating System.

Lewis led the Hawks with 20 points, five assists and two steals. Quinton Curry returned from a shoulder injury to tally 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Muench scored 12 points off the bench behind four 3-point baskets. Nick Volz finished with eight points and six rebounds. Connor Evans added seven points, five rebounds and two steals.
 
Rockhurst shot 51.0 percent from the field (26 of 51) and made 10 of 17 free throws (58.8 percent). The Hawks missed three front end free throw opportunities in the final 10 minutes.
 
Ballock led Drury (18-10, 12-5 GLVC) with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Panthers shot 55.8 percent from the field (24 of 43).
