Second half rally carries Hawks past Missouri S&T

Rockhurst rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to defeat Missouri S&T, 81-74, Saturday in the regular season finale at the Gibson Arena in Rolla, Missouri.

The Hawks opened the second half on a 17-2 run to rally from a 44-29 halftime in taking a 46-45 lead. Rockhurst outscored the Miners, 52-30, in the second half while connecting on 19-of-27 field goals. The Hawks closed the game on a 19-10 run over the final six minutes.

"I was really proud of our execution in the second half," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We came out and we were very efficient on offense after a difficult first half.

"They have some great one-on-one players and they compete hard regardless of their record. The foul trouble hurt us in the first half. That disrupted our rhythm on offense."

Rockhurst (17-11, 11-7 GLVC) will now play Bellarmine (23-4, 14-4 GLVC) in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Curtis Lewis led the Hawks with 23 points on eight-of-11 shooting. Quinton Curry scored all 19 of his points and five rebounds in the second half.

Nick Volz finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Connor Evans collected 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Chris Hamil added nine points on three 3-pointers in the second half.

Rockhurst shot 56.6 percent from the field (30 of 53) and made 18 of 24 free throws (75.0 percent).

Dulan Scott led S&T (5-21, 3-15 GLVC) with 16 points on seven-of-10 shooting. The Miners shot 50.0 percent from the field (29 of 58).
