Griffin Fletcher held Bemidji State to three hits in shutting out the Beavers, 4-0, in the second game of a doubleheader on a bitterly cold Thursday afternoon at the LaRoche Baseball Complex in Fort Scott, Kansas.
The junior right-hander never allowed a runner to reach second base while striking out four and allowing one walk in his first appearance of the young season. He retired the side in order three times.
The Hawks scored three runs in the third inning.
Noah Huston and
Alex Van Pelt singled home runs, followed by a sacrifice fly by
Luke Sosaya.
Garrett McNally drove in the final run with a single in the sixth.
Van Pelt led the Hawks with two hits, including a leadoff double down the right-field line in the sixth.
The Beavers won the first game, 7-4, despite being outhit by the Hawks, 9-8. Bemidji State scored six runs on five hits in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. Rockhurst scored four answered runs to cut the Beavers' lead to three runs in the fourth.
Huston finished with a pair of doubles, including an RBI two-bagger in the fourth. McNally posted two hits, one RBI and a stole home in the second.
Senior right-hander
Jonathan Fink held the Beavers scoreless on four hits over the final 5.2 innings.
The Hawks (1-7) play another doubleheader against Bemidji State on Friday in Fort Scott.
