The Hawks outscored Truman 44-36 in the second half after trailing 33-31 at halftime. Rockhurst went on a 17-3 run to take a 67-59 lead with 3:05 left to play. The Hawks made five free throws in the final 20 seconds to hold off a late rally by the Bulldogs.
Â
"Our depth really paid off today," said Rockhurst coach
Drew Diener, who was playing without starting forward
Quinton Curry. "With the injury to Quinton (in Thursday's win over Quincy) and our foul trouble in the first half, we had multiple guys come in and give us great minutes."
Â
Tyler Garrett,
Undra Wilson,
Eddie Muench and
Zach Burch combined for 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists off the bench.
Â
"Our toughness really shined through today again," added Diener. "We guarded with great passion all game long. Offensively, limiting our turnovers in the second half was huge. Curtis was phenomenal making plays in the second half. He really put on a show."Â
Lewis made nine-of-10 field goals and sank eight-of-10 free throws in 24 minutes of action. Lewis also had four assists and four rebounds.
Â
Nick Volz scored 17 points on seven-of-10 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Senior forward
Connor Evans added four points and eight rebounds in his final home game.
