The Rockhurst women's basketball team continues its homestand this week as the Hawks host Quincy (Thursday, 5:30 p.m.) and Truman State (Saturday, 1:00 p.m.).
Rockhurst's junior guard
Madeline Ronshausen has been performing at an all-conference caliber level all season, and that was no different last week. The sharpshooter exploded for 61 points in two games: 29 vs. Illinois Springfield and 32 vs. McKendree.
Ronshausen enters Thursday's contest averaging 18.3 points per game (third-best in the GLVC) and has connected on 52 3-pointers this season, second-most in the league. With 989 career points heading into Thursday, Ronshausen has a strong chance of eclipsing the 1,000-point mark this week.
Ronshausen isn't just a scorer, as she also leads the Hawks in rebounds (4.0 pg) and assists (2.6 pg). Her well-rounded game has been complimented by
Briahtia Sebek (8.4 points per game on a GLVC-best 46.9 percent from the 3-point line),
Lauren Krissman (7.2 pg) and freshman
Meghan Urbanski who has given the Hawks a spark since returning form injury.
Coach
Larry Park will rely on strong contributions from that quartet on Thursday as the Hawks look to complete a season sweep of Quincy. Rockhurst notched an impressive 74-67 road win in Quincy, Illinois on Dec. 1, behind 23 points from Ronshausen. The game included a 37-9 Rockhurst run, as Ronshausen, Sebek and
Marisa Lowe heated up from beyond the arc. Both Quincy and Rockhurst enter the game with GLVC records of 3-10, so both clubs will be looking for a win to spark a late season run.
Truman State visits Mason-Halpin Field House Saturday with an impressive record of 19-4 (10-3 GLVC). Rockhurst will look to avenge a 73-56 loss at TSU back on Nov. 29. The Bulldogs feature a balanced attack offensively behind Brooke Bailey (11.7 pg), Rachel Edmundson (10.8 pg), Sloane Totta (10.6 pg) and Katie Jaseckas (9.4 pg). Truman is stout on the other end of the floor as well, ranking second in the GLVC in both field goal percentage defense (39.2) and rebounding margin (plus-5.3).
