Hawks are No. 3 seed in NCAA championship finals

The 19th-ranked Rockhurst volleyball team has been seeded third in the 2019 NCAA Division II championship finals and will face sixth-seeded Carson-Newman University at 1:00 p.m. (Central time) Thursday in a national quarterfinal match in Denver, Colorado.

The Hawks (32-7) have never played against the Eagles (28-7), who are located in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Carson-Newman has won 21 of its last 23 matches after starting the season with a 7-5 record.

Rockhurst has won 16 of its last 17 matches. The Hawks captured the GLVC regular season title, the GLVC Tournament championship and the NCAA Midwest Regional crown.

The Hawks are making their third appearance in the last five years in the National Championships. Rockhurst won Midwest Regional titles in 2015 and 2017.

Carson-Newman is in the NCAA national quarterfinals for the second time in the last five years. The Eagles won the Southeast Region by sweeping Augusta (Ga.) in the finals. The Eagles were champions of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament and reached the national quarterfinals four years ago in Tampa, Florida.

The Rockhurst/CNU winner takes on the winner of second-seeded Nebraska-Kearney (36-0) and seventh-seeded Gannon (30-6) on Friday in the national semifinals at a time to be announced.

Metro State University-Denver is serving as host of this year's Elite Eight. Matches will be played in the Auraria Event Center with tickets being $20 (adult all-session), $10 (student/senior all-session), $12 (adult single session) and $6 (student/senior single session).
