Hawks make it back-to-back as GLVC champions

Rockhurst captured its second consecutive GLVC Volleyball Championship, defeating 22nd-ranked Missouri-St. Louis in five sets (25-16, 15-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-6) in the finals of the GLVC Tournament Sunday in East Peoria, Illinois.

The 21st-ranked Hawks, 29-7, will await the announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament bracket Monday night.

"I thought we played pretty well in the odd sets (1, 3 and 5)," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke. "Karli (Reichert) got her serve in and her serve is tough to receive. That got us going and got them out of their system. I just thought our whole team had a lot of energy today."

Reichert, Mary Rolf and Dani Prusha each finished with a double-double. Reichert posted 18 kills and 16 digs. Rolf collected 11 kills and 10 blocks. Prusha had team highs in assists (51) and digs (17).

"We knew it was going to a tough matchup," Reichert said. "They have a lot of strengths. We did a good job of slowing them down in the fifth set."

Audrey Arand added 14 kills and four blocks. Alyssa Woodman totaled nine kills and 12 digs. Jadyn Makovicka tallied 15 digs.

Set One:
Rockhurst 25, UMSL 16
The Hawks closed out the set on an 11-3 run. Rolf led the way with four kills.

Set Two: UMSL 25, Rockhurst 15
The Tritons pulled away behind a 14-4 run. Rockhurst was held to 10 kills.

Set Three:
Rockhurst 25, UMSL 13
Rockhurst hit .423 with 14 kills and three errors. Arand and Woodman combined for seven kills.

Set Four: UMSL 25, Rockhurst 21
UMSL rallied from an 18-16 deficit to take the match to a fifth set. The Tritons posted 16 kills with a .361 hitting percentage.

Set Five: Rockhurst 15, UMSL 6
Rockhurst led 5-1 early and ended the match on a 6-1 run. Arand and Reichert combined for seven kills.

Player of the Match
Karli Reichert. The GLVC Player of the Year averaged 3.60 kills and 3.20 digs per set. She posted 41 kills in 11 sets in the GLVC Tournament.

• The Hawks posted a .256 hitting percentage while holding UMSL to a .139 hitting percentage.
Rockhurst finished with 81 kills, 14 blocks and 69 digs.

Notes
Rockhurst has now won three GLVC Tournament titles. The Hawks won the 2012 GLVC Tournament Championship in Indianapolis.

• Head coach Tracy Rietzke increased his career wins total to 1,273. The all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II ranks fourth in career wins for all three NCAA levels.
