No. 12 Lewis outlasts No. 20 Rockhurst in five sets

The 20th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks fell to the 12th-ranked Lewis Flyers in five sets Friday night in Romeoville, Illinois.

Karli Reichert (14 kills, 13 digs), Alyssa Woodman (10 kills, 20 digs), Audrey Arand (10 kills, 15 digs) and Dani Prusha (43 assists, 14 digs) all posted double-doubles for the Hawks. Mary Rolf stuffed the stat sheet as well, collecting 14 kills and four blocks. Jadyn Makovicka added 16 digs.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Lewis 20
Trailing 14-13, Rockhurst surged ahead with a 5-1 run. The Flyers would pull back within one at 21-20, but the Hawks rattled off four straight points to take the set.

Set Two: Rockhurst 26, Lewis 24
Lewis led 17-14 before a 5-0 Rockhurst run put the Hawks up two. The Flyers would tie the score three separate times, but the Hawks held on to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three: Lewis 25, Rockhurst 23
Set three was full of momentum swings. Lewis jumped out to a 16-9 lead, but Rockhurst stormed back with a 6-0 run to pull within one. The Flyers responded with a 6-0 run of their own to go up 22-15. Rockhurst took eight of the next 10 points to cut the the lead to one again at 24-23, but Lewis held on.

Set Four: Lewis 25, Rockhurst 18
Leading 20-17, the Flyers scored five of the last six points to even the match at 2-2.

Set Five: Lewis 15, Rockhurst 10
The Hawks led 7-6, but the Flyers rallied for four straight points. Rockhurst scored back-to-back points to pull within one at 10-9, but the Hawks ran out of gas and Lewis was able to close out the match on their home court.

Coach Tracy Rietzke's team will look to bounce back Saturday at Illinois Springfield (3:00 p.m.). With Drury losing Friday, the Hawks can clinch the GLVC regular season title with a win at Springfield.
