Women's Soccer aims to defend GLVC tourney title

The Hawks won the GLVC Tournament title in Jeffersonville, Indiana last year.
Rockhurst will be shooting for its second consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship this weekend in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The third-seeded Hawks (14-4) will face seventh-seeded Southern Indiana (11-6-1) in the first of two semifinal game Friday at 11:00 a.m. EST. Top-seeded McKendree meets fifth-seeded Bellarmine in Friday's second semifinal. The two semifinal winners will meet in the GLVC title game at noon EST Sunday.

The Hawks are making their 14th appearance in the GLVC Tournament and their fifth trip to the semifinal round. Rockhurst is 7-11-2 all-time in the GLVC Tournament.

Rockhurst shares the lead for most goals (31) in the GLVC with Indianapolis and Southern Indiana. Junior midfielder Jillian Leetch leads the team with 17 points on five goals and seven assists.

The Hawks were ranked fifth in this week's NCAA Midwest Regional rankings behind Grand Valley State, Findlay, Ashland and Walsh. McKendree (6) and Bellarmine (8) are right behind Rockhurst in the regional poll. The top eight earn a ticket to the NCAA Division national tournament.

Rockhurst holds a 13-2-2 advantage all-time over the Screaming Eagles. The Hawks blanked USI 2-0 earlier this year in Kansas City and edged the Eagles in a shootout in the GLVC Tournament semifinals last year.

All matches in the tournament will be streamed for free on the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sports Network (GLVCSN.com).
