Hawks drop final home game to Prairie Stars

Rockhurst closed out its home schedule with a 2-1 loss on Senior Day to Illinois Springfield Sunday at RU's Bourke Field.

Springfield jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when the Prairie Stars scored on a 20-yard free kick in the seventh minute. The Stars came back 12 minutes later to score their second goal on a seven-yard shot off a left cross.

Freshman Jackson Wood cut the Stars' lead in half when he drilled an 18-yard shot in the 78th minute. Freshman Parker Esparza and senior Pablo Salvador Lopez assisted on Wood's third goal of the season.

Rockhurst finished with seven shots. Wood and Federico Verlicchi each had two shots. RU's Nick Randazzo made five saves in goal.

The Hawks (5-8-2, 5-7-1 GLVC) close out their regular season at Indianapolis on Friday and at Bellarmine next Sunday.
