No. 20 Hawks cruise vs. S&T in three sets

The 20th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks earned a 3-0 sweep (25-9, 25-19, 32-30) over Missouri S&T in their return to GLVC play Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Karli Reichert led the charge for Rockhurst, posting a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Alyssa Woodman tallied eight kills and tied for the game-high in digs at 14, along with Jadyn Makovicka.

Justice Wingate and Mary Rolf were strong in the middle, combining for 12 kills and 10 blocks. Audrey Arand posted six kills, three blocks and seven digs. Dani Prusha racked up a game-high 35 assists while adding eight digs.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Missouri S&T 9
The Hawks shot out like a cannonball in the first set, opening up a 17-3 lead. The Miners would settle in from there, but it was too little too late.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Missouri S&T 19
The second set was far more competitive. S&T rattled off six straight to take a 13-9 lead. The Hawks responded with a 4-0 run to even the score. Up 19-18 later in the set, Rockhurst would rally for six of the last seven points to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three: Rockhurst 32, Missouri S&T 30
Rockhurst jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the third set, but the Miners scored six of the next seven to level the score 12-12. The teams continued to seesaw back and forth. Tied 24-24, Rockhurst got to match point seven separate times, and eventually outlasted S&T.

Coach Tracy Rietzke's team improves to 19-6 (7-1 GLVC). The Hawks are back at Mason-Halpin Field House Saturday vs. Maryville (3:00 p.m.).
