First half goals carry Hawks to 2-1 win over Lewis

Two first-half goals by players off the bench led Rockhurst to a 2-1 victory over the Lewis Flyers Friday night at RU's Bourke Field.

Freshman Parker Esparza scored his first collegiate goal four minutes later off a shot that he flicked in the nets from eight yards out. Victor Gonzalez and Federico Verlicchi assisted on what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Lewis cut the Hawks' lead in the half in the 64th minute on a header shot from five yards out off a free kick. The Hawks held on down the stretch in game that featured six yellow cards in the final 27 minutes.

Rockhurst finished with 12 shots, including eight in the second half. Four different Hawks each had two shots. RU's Nick Randazzo made three saves in goal.
