No. 20 Hawks handle Ottawa in three sets

The 20th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks defeated Ottawa University in three sets (25-7, 25-13, 25-13) Tuesday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks tallied 61 digs in the match and held a strong advantage in hitting percentage, .343 to the Braves' .038.

Audrey Arand set the tone for Rockhurst, posting a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Alyssa Woodman tallied 13 kills and nine digs. Karli Reichert collected 10 kills and five digs. Dani Prusha led the way in assists with 30. Jadyn Makovicka posted a game-high 14 digs.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Ottawa 7
The Hawks started fast, scoring seven of the first eight points. Leading 12-6 later in the set, Rockhurst rattled off 12 of the last 13 to gain a 1-0 lead in the match.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Ottawa 13
The Braves were competitive early in the second set, trailing just 6-4 before the Hawks pulled away with separate runs of 5-0 and 4-0.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, Ottawa 13
Trailing 5-4 early in the third set, the Hawks surged ahead with a 6-1 run. Ottawa would never get closer than four the rest of the way. Leading 19-12, Rockhurst used another 6-1 run to complete the sweep.

"We had scrappy defense with 61 digs in three sets, [including] Audrey Arand with a double-double," assistant coach Brian Tate shared. "We had really efficient offense -- in transition, out of serve receive, hitting over .300 again -- felt good to do that."

Coach Tracy Rietzke's club improves to 18-6 with the win. The Hawks are back in action at Mason-Halpin this weekend -- Friday vs. Missouri S&T (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday vs. Maryville (3:00 p.m.).
