The Hawks men's and women's tennis teams return to the court Friday in Grand Island, Nebraska to open up their spring season.
The women take on the University of Nebraska-Kearney (Friday, 1:00 p.m.) and Augustana University (Saturday, 10:00 a.m.). The men face Hastings College (Friday, 4:00 p.m.) and Augustana (Saturday, 10:00 a.m.).
For the men's team,
Tarass Thevenaz and
Nicolas Leon are a couple players to keep an eye on. "Tarass is an experienced senior eager to compete and Nicolas has improved a lot," Coach
Carolina Mayorga-Perry said.
Thevenaz, hailing from Le Landeron, Switzerland, posted an impressive 15-6 record in the 2017-18 campaign. Leon, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, finished 10-7.
"On the women's side, we have
Emma Persson,
Octavia Malin and
Anilu Barraza leading the way on and off the court," Mayorga-Perry said.
Persson, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, posted an 8-6 record last season. Malin, a redshirt junior form Grapevine, Texas, went 3-1, while Barraza, a senior from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, finished 9-8.
The Hawks will host home matches on campus at Loyola Park Tennis Courts, as well as Milburn Country Club in Overland Park, Kansas, and Clayview Country Club in Liberty, Missouri.
The teams will be traveling to Sarasota, Florida for non-conference action March 10-17 over spring break. The GLVC Tournament will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana April 19-21.
