Balanced attack carries Hawks to 3-0 victory

A balanced hitting attack carried Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory over McKendree (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Karli Reichert collected 10 kills to lead the 12th-ranked Hawks to their 12th win of the season. Emily Matio and Averi Vomastic each posted seven kills. Alyssa Woodman and Mary Rolf added five kills apiece.

Dani Prusha tallied 26 assists and 12 digs. Kalie Arnold had a team-high 18 digs. Reichert, Matio and Vomastic combined for 11 blocks.

"This was a good win against a solid team. Fortunately we won in three (sets), but we still need to work on consistency," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 23
The Hawks fell behind 15-7 before going on a 9-1 run to tie the set at 16. Rockhurst ended the set on a 6-2 run. McKendree committed 11 hitting errors.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 21
Rockhurst took an early 7-3 lead and fell behind 17-15 before closing the set on a 10-4 run. Vomastic and Matio combined for 10 kills. Arnold tallied nine digs.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 19
McKendree jumped out to a 13-8 lead. The Hawks scored the next seven points and led the rest of the set. Reichert posted four kills.

Player of the Match
Emily Matio. The senior middle hitter posted seven kills (with only one hitting error) and four blocks. She collected five kills and two blocks in the second set.
