Reichert powers Hawks to 3-2 win over Springfield

Karli Reichert posted a career-high 24 kills to power Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory over Illinois Springfield (25-13, 25-20, 16-25, 21-25, 15-13) Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The 12th-ranked Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in sets, outscoring the Prairie Stars 50-33. Springfield came back to win the next two sets. The Hawks rallied from a 9-8 deficit to pull out the fifth set by two points.

Alyssa Woodman posted 14 kills and 11 digs, while Emily Matio collected 13 kills. Dani Prusha finished with 36 assists and 11 digs. Gabbie Inman added 23 assists. Kalie Arnold totaled a team-high 21 digs.

"This was a good win. Karli had a big offensive night and we needed it," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Illinois Springfield 13
The Hawks ended the first set on a 13-1 run. Rockhurst had 18 kills and hit .586 in the opening set.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Illinois Springfield 20
Rockhurst scored six unanswered points to take an 18-12 lead. Woodman and Reichert combined for 11 kills.

Set Three: Illinois Springfield 25, Rockhurst 16
Springfield pulled away from the Hawks, going on an 11-3 run to take a 21-12 lead. Reichert and Matio combined for 12 kills.

Set Four: Illinois Springfield 25, Rockhurst 21
The Prairie Stars closed the set on a 7-3 run to even the match. Springfield posted 16 kills with a .308 hitting percentage.

Set Five: Rockhurst 15, Illinios Springfield 13
The Hawks ended the match on a 7-4 run, capped by the deciding point on a kill by Reichert. Woodman and Emma Kriete combined for four kills.

Player of the Match
Karli Reichert. The junior outside hitter got off to a fast start with six kills in the first set. She added seven kills in the third set and five more kills in the fourth set. She also tallied 13 digs and 27 points.
