Rockhurst scored 60 points in the second half to rally for a 95-90 win over Emporia State Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
The Hawks connected on 19 of 29 field goals (65.5 percent) and 17 of 22 free throws (77.3 percent) in the second half to overcome a 46-35 halftime deficit.
"We really played well in the second half after stinking in the first half," said Rockhurst coach
Drew Diener. "We cut it to 11 at halftime and then got a good lift from
Connor Evans defensively in the second half. Our bench gave us great production today; that is a sign of a great team."
Curtis Lewis led the Hawks with 24 points (on 11-of-18 shooting), seven rebounds and six assists.
Eddie Muench came off the bench to score 22 points on seven-of-11 shooting (with four 3-pointers) and three assists.
Quinton Curry finished with 14 points, four assists and two blocks.
Chris Hamil tallied 13 points and three assists. Evans posted nine points, four rebounds and two blocks.
Auston Rushing added eight points.
Emporia State jumped out to a 39-22 late in the first half. The Hawks closed out the first half on a 13-7 run and opened the second half on a 16-9 run to pull within two points of the Hornets. Rockhurst took the lead for good (80-77) at the 4:08 mark on a 3-pointer by Hamil.
Rockhurst shot 57.6 percent from the field (34 of 59) and hit nine of 21 three-pointers (42.9 percent). Justin Washington led Emporia State (5-4) with 18 points. The Hornets shot 47.5 percent from the field (28 of 59).
The Hawks (6-3, 1-1 GLVC) play at Missouri Western on Wednesday night.
