Hawks begin three-game road trip in Oklahoma

The Rockhurst women's basketball team (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) hits the road for three non-conference games starting Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma.

The Hawks fell to Central Missouri 84-67 in their previous game Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House. Marisa Lowe led the way with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Battling back from injury, Lowe has provided a nice spark in recent weeks for Larry Park's squad.

Madeline Ronshausen tallied 22 points in the loss to UCM, upping her average to 17.4 points per game, the third-highest total in the GLVC.

The Hillcats of Rogers State enter Saturday's contest with a record of 3-6. They host Randall University Friday night where they'll look to snap a three-game losing streak. Averaging 63.8 points per game, Rogers State might have an uphill battle trying to keep up with the Hawks' offense (75.1 ppg). Lauren Schuldt leads RSU in scoring at 12.1 ppg. The 6-2 forward is very efficient, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the foul line.

The Hawks then travel to sixth-ranked Fort Hays State on Monday (Dec. 17) for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Tigers are unbeaten at 8-0 and host Tabor College Friday night. Fort Hays averages 81.6 points per game while allowing just 54.4 ppg. The Tigers are balanced offensively led by Tatyana Legette (12.8 ppg), Kacey Kennett (12.1 ppg) and Lanie Page (12.0 ppg). Fort Hays outrebounds their opponents by an average of 11 per game and enjoys a plus-9.8 advantage in turnover margin.

Rockhurst travels to Alamosa, Colorado to take on Adams State University next Wednesday (Dec. 19) at 3:00 p.m. The Hawks and Grizzlies have already met once this season, resulting in an 82-79 Rockhurst win on Nov. 9. Ronshausen and Lauren Krissman combined for 42 points in the double overtime thriller. (See recap here: (https://rockhursthawks.com/news/2018/11/9/womens-basketball-resilient-hawks-outlast-adams-state-in-double-ot.aspx).

Adams State is 1-4 on the season, but is a few bounces away from being 3-2 with tough overtime losses to Rockhurst and New Mexico Highlands. The Grizzlies are led by sophomore guard Stephanie Ruiz (18.8 ppg). ASU takes on RMAC opponents Black Hills State and South Dakota School of Mines over the weekend before hosting Rockhurst. The shooting guard matchup of Ruiz vs. Ronshausen is certainly one to keep an eye on in Wednesday's contest.
