Rockhurst falls to Davenport in GLVC-GLIAC Challenge

Davenport scored 49 points in the second half to rally for a 73-62 victory over Rockhurst in the GLAIC-GLVC Challenge in Liberty, Missouri.

The Panthers opened the second half on a 20-7 run to take a 10-point lead at 44-34 with 13:10 left to play. The Hawks rallied to cut Davenport's lead to three at 61-58 with 3:44 left. The Panthers made six free throws and two 3-pointers in the final 3:31.

Quinton Curry led the Hawks with 21 points, including 12 points in the first half. Nick Volz posted 13 points and six rebounds. Chris Hamil scored 12 points. Curtis Lewis added seven points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

"I thought we guarded well but our turnovers turned into layups," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "For the game we shot so poorly. We left a lot of points on the board. I think we are better offensively than we showed today."

Rockhurst shot 41.9 percent from the field and only made four of 23 three-point field goals. The Hawks jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the first 12 and a half minutes of the game. A Curtis Lewis layup gave the Hawks a 27-24 halftime lead.

Player of the Game: Quinton Curry. The sophomore forward connected on nine of 12 field goals. He was limited to 26 minutes after getting his fourth foul with 12:23 left in the second half.

  • The Hawks scored 38 points in the paint, while holding Davenport to 20 points in the paint.
  • Connor Evans led the Hawks with seven rebounds.
