Rockhurst upsets top-seeded USI in GLVC Tournament

Gianluca Bottoni scored five points on two goals and one assist to lead Rockhurst to a 3-1 upset win over top-seeded Southern Indiana in the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament Sunday in Evansville, Indiana.

The eighth-seeded Hawks (8-7-2) will face fourth-seeded Maryville at 2:30 EST Friday in Jeffersonville, Indiana in the second of two GLVC men's semifinal games. McKendree and Bellarmine will meet in the first semifinal game at noon EST Friday.

Freshman midfielder Jordan Andrews opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Andrews found the back left of the net from five yards out off an indirect kick from Bottoni.

Bottoni gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead when he converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute. The 11th-ranked Screaming Eagles scored four minutes earlier on a penalty kick. Bottoni notched his second goal of the day in the 77th minute on a shot from the top of the box. Umoh Ufot and Filippo Santandrea assisted on Bottoni's fourth goal of the season.

Rockhurst posted 11 shots and seven shots on goal. The Eagles collected six shots and two shots on goal. Marco Cora led the Hawks with four shots and two shots on goal. Andrews and Bottoni each had two shots on goal.
