The Rockhurst men's basketball team returns to conference action this week at home against William Jewell on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and Indianapolis on Saturday (3 p.m.).
Rockhurst (8-4, 2-1 GLVC) is coming off an 84-80 win at Newman last Saturday.
Curtis Lewis leads the Hawks in scoring (12.9) and assists (4.3).
Quinton Curry and
Auston Rushing follow close behind at 12.4 and 12.3 points per game, respectively.
William Jewell is 12-1 on the season (2-1 in the GLVC) and leads the GLVC with a 93.1 scoring average. Junior guard Keith Hayes ranks second in the GLVC in scoring (19.9). Junior guard Pharroh Gordon leads the GLVC in rebounding (10.7). Larry Holley is in his 39th season as Jewell's head coach and has 811 career victories.
Indianapolis is 7-4 and 1-2 in the GLVC going into a road game at Quincy Thursday night. The Greyhounds are averaging 80.4 points per game.
"Clearly this is a big weekend for us," said Rockhurst coach
Drew Diener. "Both teams are very strong and will challenge us to play well for 40 minutes. Every conference game is like gold, our urgency should be at a high level. We are looking forward to the challenge."
Women's basketball returns home with 6-5 record
The Rockhurst women's basketball team will host William Jewell on Thursday (5:30 p.m.) and Indianapolis on Saturday (1 p.m.). The Hawks (6-5, 2-1 GLVC) return home after a road loss at Central Missouri on Dec. 19.
Sophomore guard
Madeline Ronshausen ranks sixth in scoring (15.6) and fourth in 3-point field goals made (2.5) in the GLVC. Senior guard
Jillian Myers stands second in assists (4.3), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6), fourth in blocked shots (1.6), fourth in steals (2.4) and 24th in scoring (12.2) in the GLVC.
William Jewell (5-5, 2-1 GLVC) is coming off an 80-51 victory at home over Avila on Dec. 16. Junior forward Kayla Harrell of the Cardinals ranks 28th in the GLVC in scoring (11.3). Indianapolis is 3-10 (0-3 GLVC) going into a Thursday game at Quincy.
