NCAA QUARTERFINALS: The 12th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks, 15-2-2, will be playing in the quarterfinals in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships for the third year in a row. Midwest Region champion Rockhurst will meet Central Region champion Northeastern State, 14-5, on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. EST at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, W.Va. The Hawks scored in the second overtime period Thursday in Philippi to defeat Ohio Valley, 1-0, to capture its fifth NCAA Midwest Region crown. Senior defender Michael Panarisi scored the winning goal in the 105th minute on a six-yard shot inside the right post.
NCAA HISTORY: Rockhurst is playing in its 10th NCAA Tournament and its sixth in the last seven years. The Hawks have advanced to the national semifinals in three of the past four years. Rockhurst has captured five NCAA Midwest Regional crowns since 2011. The Hawks own an all-time record of 12-6-6 in the NCAA Tournament dating back to 2002.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Hawks rank 12th in assists, 32nd in scoring offense and 24th in shutout percentage with 10 shutouts in 19 games in NCAA Division II. Senior goalkeeper Logan Feldmann ranks among the national leaders in goals against average (0.61). Senior forward Kaleb Jackson ranks in the top 30 nationally in goals (12) and points (31). Senior midfielder Adam Michel ranks 15th in the nation in game-winning goals (5).
ALL-TIME WIN NO. 751: With the win over Ohio Valley, Rockhurst has now won 751 games since the program begin in 1964. The Hawks are the all-time winningest program among Division II schools and ranks as the eighth winningest NCAA program all-time. Rockhurst captured its sixth Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship in 2017 with a 12-1-1 league record. The Hawks also won GLVC regular season titles in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016.
POSTSEASON HONORS: Rockhurst forward Kaleb Jackson, goalkeeper Logan Feldmann and Rockhurst head coach Tony Tocco garnered major postseason honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Jackson was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Feldmann was selected the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, while Tocco earned GLVC Coach of the Year accolades. Tocco is now a six-time GLVC Coach of the Year, having previously been recognized by GLVC coaches in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016. Jackson, Feldmann, midfielder Adam Michel, defender Connor Mullen, defender Filippo Santandrea and defender Luca Mastrantonio were named to the All-GLVC First Team. Forward Umoh Ufot and defender Swann Vincent nabbed All-GLVC Second Team honors. Midfielder Ben McDonald and defender Sal Caruso received All-GLVC Third Team accolades. Jackson, Michel and Mullen were named to the CCA All-Midwest Region first team, while Santandrea and Mastrantonio earned second team All-Region honors.
COACH TONY TOCCO: Coach Tocco is now tied with Ohio Wesleyan's Jay Martin as the all-time winningest intercollegiate men's soccer coaches with 695 victories. The Hawks finished third in the nation in Division II in 2015 and 2016, and ranked fourth nationally in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Rockhurst has been the No. 1 seeded team in the NCAA Midwest Regional five times. The Hawks won NCAA Midwest Regional titles in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017, and reached the national semifinals in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS: Northeastern State, out of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, advanced to the national quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Fort Hays State Thursday in Philippi. The RiverHawks have outscored their opponents 45-16 on the season. Midfielder Joe Garcia leads Northeastern State with 13 goals and 30 points. Goalkeeper Ryan Davis led the MIAA with six shutouts and has had 67 saves this season.
