Hawks capture fifth NCAA Midwest Region crown

Box Score Second-seeded Rockhurst scored in the second overtime period to defeat top-seeded Ohio Valley, 1-0, to capture its fifth NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship Thursday at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, W.Va.

Rockhurst has won five of the past seven Midwest Regional Championships. Rockhurst coach Tony Tocco is now tied for the most career wins (695) among intercollegiate men's soccer coaches.

The 12th-ranked Hawks (15-2-2) will face Central Region champion Northeastern (OK) State in the NCAA national quarterfinals on Saturday at 12 p.m. CST in Philippi for a right to advance to the D2 national semifinals in Kansas City on Nov. 30.

Senior defender Michael Panarisi scored the winning goal in the 105th minute on a six-yard shot inside the right post. Adam Michel and Kaleb Jackson assisted on the golden goal.

Both teams finished with 13 shots. Luca Mastranonio led the Hawks with five shots. Jackson added three shots. The Hawks' Logan Feldmann stopped three shots, while Ohio Valley (17-2-4) keeper Carlos Rubio made six saves.
