Fifth-ranked Hawks settle for 1-1 tie at Maryville

Salim Gumati scored his second career goal early in the second half.
Box Score The Rockhurst Hawks' eight-game winning streak ended Friday while battling to a 1-1 tie with the Maryville Saints in St. Louis.

The fifth-ranked Hawks appeared to have scored the game-winning goal with 1:45 left in the second overtime when Kaleb Jackson headed in a shot off a pass from Connor Mullen.

But the goal was negated when Jackson was called offside on the play. Jackson had one last shot at the end of the game that was saved by the Maryville goalkeeper.

Senior midfielder Salim Gumati tied the score at 1-1 when he knocked in a shot 14 seconds into the second half off a pass from Jackson. It was Gumati's second career goal and his first goal since 2014.

Maryville took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a penalty kick. Rockhurst outshot the Saints, 11-4. Jackson and Ben McDonald led the Hawks with three shots apiece. Adam Michel added two shots. Senior goalkeeper Logan Feldmann made two saves.

The Hawks (8-0-2 and 7-0-1 in the GLVC) play at Missouri-St. Louis Sunday afternoon.
