Hawks fall to Miners in overtime in GLVC quarterfinals

Box Score For the first time in three years, the Rockhurst men's soccer team will not be playing in the championship game of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

Missouri S&T denied the top-seeded Hawks a third consecutive GLVC title as the eighth-seeded Miners pulled out a 3-2 overtime win in the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament Sunday at Bourke Field.

Rockhurst, now 13-2-2, will await the announcement of NCAA Tournament pairings on Monday, November 6. The Hawks were ranked second in the latest NCAA Midwest Regional rankings.

The Miners (8-6-2) scored the winning goal with 1:35 left in the first overtime period on a 6-yard shot into the bottom right corner by David Murphy, ending Rockhurst's string of 17 consecutive overtime games without a loss dating back to Sept. 21, 2014.

Kaleb Jackson gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game with his 12th goal of the season on a 15-yard shot, assisted by Salim Gumati and Sean Michel.

Missouri S&T scored two goals three minutes apart early in the second half. The Hawks' Ben McDonald evened the game at 2-2 in the 69th minute with a header shot from 15 yards out off a throw-in by Sal Caruso and header by Adam Michel.

Rockhurst outshot the Miners, 23-20. Adam Michel led the Hawks with seven shots. McDonald, Jackson and Umoh Ufot added four shots apiece. Logan Feldmann posted four saves.
