MIDWEST REGIONAL: The sixth-ranked Rockhurst Hawks, 16-2-2, are hosting a second-round Midwest Regional game in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships for the second year in a row. Top-seeded Rockhurst will meet fourth-seeded Southern Indiana, 13-3-4, on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at Rockhurt's Bourke Field. This is the second meeting between the two schools this season. The Hawks won the first meeting in overtime by a 2-1 score at Southern Indiana.
2015 MIDWEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONS: Rockhurst captured its third NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in 2015. The Hawks earned their second ticket to the D-II national semifinals with a 4-1 victory in penalty kicks over Fort Hays State at Rockhurst on Nov 22, 2015. Rockhurst edged Northwood, 2-1, to capture the NCAA Midwest Region title at Rockhurst on Nov. 20, 2015. Adam Michel and Kaleb Jackson scored goals for the Hawks. Logan Feldmann posted his sixth consecutive shutout to lead Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory over Cedarville in a second-round NCAA Midwest Regional game Nov. 14 at Rockhurst. Jackson, Paul Dean and Michel scored for the Hawks.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Rockhurst is ranked ninth in goals against average (0.64) and is tied for 15th in shutout percentage with 10 shutouts in 20 games in NCAA Division II. Logan Feldmann ranks 11th nationally in goals against average (0.635). Kaleb Jackson is tied for eighth in Division II in game-winning goals (6). Rockhurst is ranked sixth nationally in assists (48).
GLVC TOURNEY CHAMPS: The Hawks captured their sixth Great Lakes Valley Tournament Championship on Nov. 6 at Indianapolis. The Hawks defeated Indianapolis in a penalty kick shootout by a 4-3 margin in the finals of the GLVC Tournament. Rockhurst also got past Maryville and Quincy to advance to the GLVC championship game. The Hawks also won GLVC tourney titles in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
POSTSEASON HONORS: Rockhurst junior midfielder Connor Mullen and Rockhurst head coach Tony Tocco garnered major postseason honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Mullen was picked as the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year and Tocco earned GLVC Coach of the Year accolades. Mullen anchored a Rockhurst defense that allowed just eight goals in 15 conference matches. Tocco is now a five-time GLVC Coach of the Year, having previously been recognized by GLVC coaches in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2015. Senior defender Evan Craig, junior forward Kaleb Jackson and senior midfielder Gianluca Bottoni were named to the All-GLVC First Team. Junior midfielder Adam Michel and senior defender Matt Collier nabbed All-GLVC Second Team honors. Mullen, senior defender Paul Dean and junior defender Filippo Santandrea received All-GLVC Third Team accolades.
COACH TONY TOCCO: Coach Tocco ranks second on the all-time list among intercollegiate men's soccer coaches with 678 victories. Since joining the NCAA in 1998, the Hawks have advanced to the national tournament nine times. The Hawks finished third in the nation in Division II in 2015, and ranked fourth nationally in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Rockhurst has been the No. 1 seeded team in the NCAA Midwest Regional five times. The Hawks won NCAA Midwest Regional titles in 2011, 2013 and 2015, and reached the national semifinals in 2013 and 2015.
SCOUTING THE SCREAMING EAGLES: Southern Indiana advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships with a 3-1 penalty kick shootout victory over Quincy Friday night at Rockhurst. Freshman forward Eric Ramirez leads the Screaming Eagles with 10 goals and 21 points. Ramirez and junior goalkeeper Adam Zehme were named to the All-GLVC First Team.
