Hawks advance in NCAA Tournament with 3-1 win over Southern Indiana

Ben McDonald celebrated after scoring Rockhurst's first goal on Sunday.
Box Score Top-seeded Rockhurst scored two goals in the final 23 minutes to post a 3-1 victory over fourth-seeded Southern Indiana in a second-round Midwest Region game Sunday in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at Rockhurst's Bourke Field.

Rockhurst (17-2-2) will now face sixth-seeded Drury in the Midwest Regional finals on Friday, November 18 in Hays, Kansas at 4 p.m. CST. The winner of the Midwest Regional will face the Central Region winner between Lindenwood and Fort Hays State in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, November 20 in Hays.

Michael Panarisi gave Rockhurst a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 68th minute. Adam Michel wrapped up the scoring with a header shot from eight yards in the 81st minute off a direct kick from Panarisi.

Ben McDonald opened the scoring for Rockhurst in the seventh minute. McDonald scored his first career goal on a shot from 16 yards out. Southern Indiana tied the score in the 64th minute on a goal by Pedro Castro.

The Hawks outshot Southern Indiana (13-4-4) by a 12-6 margin. Derek Schrick led Rockhurst with three shtos. Both USI keeper Adam Zehme and Rockhurst's Logan Feldmann made two saves.
