McCourt named to coaching staff of Great Britain National Team

Rockhurst women's lacrosse coach Molly McCourt has been to the coaching staff of the Great Britain National Team.

Rockhurst women's lacrosse coach Molly McCourt has been named to the coaching staff of the Great Britain National Team, which will be competing in the World Games in the summer of 2017 in Poland directly after the Lacrosse World Cup in England.

"England, Scotland, and Wales compete separately at the World Cup, but will combine for the World Games, which is one of the first steps toward becoming an Olympic sport," said McCourt, who is still on the coaching staff with Wales.

The World Games is an international sports event which began in 1981 and takes place one year after the Summer Olympics. Their goal is to promote sports that are currently not part of the Olympic program. Lacrosse will join karate, archery, and squash in their bid to eventually become part of the Olympic Games. Taekwondo and the triathlon were added to the World Games platform before becoming Olympic sports.

The 2017 Wroclaw World Games in Poland will attract approximately 3,500 participants and more than 400,000 spectators.
