Hawks rally in fifth set for 3-2 win over Hillsdale

Lily Thornberg posted a team-high 35 assists.

Box Score Rockhurst rallied in the fifth set to defeat Hillsdale, 3-2, on the first day of the Midwest Region Crossover Friday in Aurora, Illinois.

The Hawks closed out the fifth set on an 8-1 run to win the fifth set, 15-11. Hillsdale jumped out to 8-4 and 10-7 leads in the fifth set. The Chargers overcome four match points to win the fourth set 30-28. Rockhurst won the first set 27-25, dropped the second set 25-22 and won the third set 25-16.

Morgan Rietzke led the Hawks with 23 kills and 16 digs in posting her 11th double-double of the season. Alyssa Woodman also had a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Mattie Gray added 15 kills with a .407 hitting percentage. Anne Hellwege (25) and Kalie Arnold (24) combined for 49 digs. Lily Thornberg (35) and Grace Carter (27) combined for both 62 assists. Karli Reichert came off the bench to supply seven kills and six blocks.

The Hawks (15-4) will play Wayne State and Michigan Tech on Saturday in the Midwest Region Crossover.
