Box Score The Rockhurst men jumped out to a four-goal lead in their season opener before coming home with a 5-5 tie against seventh-ranked Lindenwood Tuesday night in St. Charles, Mo.
The Hawks appeared to be in control after taking a 5-1 lead with under 18 minutes left in regulation. Lindenwood proceeded to score four goals in less than 12 minutes to knot the score with 6:04 left in the second period.
Rockhurst posted three shots in the first overtime, while the Lions peppered three shots in the second overtime. Lindenwood outshot the Hawks, 18-16, for the game.
Adam Michel opened the scoring for Rockhurst less than two minutes into the game.
Michael Panarisi scored two goals to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead early in the second half.
Gianluca Bottoni and
Claudio Romano scored in the 58th and 71st minute to seemingly put the game out of reach.
Panarisi led the Hawks with four shots.
Kaleb Jackson added three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper
Logan Feldmann made five saves.
Rockhurst, 0-0-1, will open conference play at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Missouri S&T.
