Late goals carry Hawks past Illinois Springfield

Box Score Rockhurst scored two late goals at Illinois Springfield Friday night to remain undefeated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The 2-0 victory in Lebanon, Ill., leaves the Hawks with a 3-0 record in the conference.

Drew Douglas broke a scoreless tie with a header from six yards out with 9:10 left in regulation. Douglas scored off a corner kick by Gianluca Bottoni.

Claudio Romano came back less than two minutes later to score on an eight-yard shot off a pass from Bottoni. The sophomore midfielder from Italy leads the Hawks with four goals in four games.

Rockhurst outshot Springfield, 23-5. Adam Michel, Romano and Bottoni led the Hawks with four shots apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Feldmann posted three saves.

Rockhurst, 3-0-1 and 3-0 in the GLVC, will play at McKendree on Sunday.
