The 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will be hosted by Rockhurst on April 17-19. The 2015 event marks the 37th annual edition for the men and 35th for the women. Matches will be played at the Plaza Tennis Courts, the Loyola Park Tennis Courts at Rockhurst, and the Overland Park Racquet Club.
The top four teams based on the highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions earn a spot in the two eight-team tournaments. Both events are single elimination with a third-place and championship match conducted on Sunday.
2015 GLVC Women's Bracket
On the women's side, the East's top-seed UIndy (10-5, 6-0 GLVC) faces the No. 4 seed in the West, Rockhurst, which beat out William Jewell and Quincy for the final spot in a three-way tiebreaker determined by highest percentage of matches won over matches played. The Hawks posted a 7-11 overall and 2-4 conference mark this season. Missouri-St. Louis (9-6, 5-1 GLVC), the second seed in the West, squares off against the East's No. 3 seed Bellarmine (13-2, 4-2 GLVC). Both matches will be played on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center. The winners will face each other on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the same site.
The No. 1 seed in the West, Drury (19-1, 6-0 GLVC), will also be in action at 9 a.m. on Friday, doing battle with Southern Indiana (14-7, 3-3 GLVC), the No. 4 seed from the East. That matchup will take place at Overland Park. Also at 9 a.m., but playing on the Rockhurst courts, will be the East's No. 2 seed, Lewis (10-6, 5-1 GLVC), facing the West's third seed Maryville (10-8, 4-2 GLVC).
UIndy has claimed a league-best eight women's tennis titles with the last coming in 2006. Drury is close behind with seven after winning last year's championship by edging Lewis 5-4. Former league member Northern Kentucky and Saint Joseph's both have won the third most titles with six each, while Bellarmine, Lewis and former league member SIU Edwardsville have all recorded one conference championship in the past.
2015 GLVC Men's Bracket
On the men's side, the top-seeded Indy Greyhounds (12-3, 6-0 GLVC) will battle Quincy (8-9, 2-3 GLVC), the No. 4 seed in the West, at 12 p.m. on Friday. The West's No. 2 seed, Missouri-St. Louis (9-7, 4-1 GLVC), faces East No. 3 Lewis (11-7, 4-2 GLVC) also at noon. Both matches will be played at the Plaza Tennis Center, and the winners will face one another Saturday at 12 p.m. at the same site.
In the bottom half of the bracket, the top-seeded Panthers (18-1, 5-0 GLVC) face McKendree (15-7, 3-3 GLVC), the East's No. 4 seed, in a match that takes place Friday at 12 p.m. at Overland Park. The winner of that contest will meet the victor between the East's No. 2 seed Southern Indiana (14-5, 5-1 GLVC) and Rockhurst (12-5, 3-2 GLVC), which is the No. 3 seed in the West. Those two teams are set for Friday action at 12 p.m. at Rockhurst's Loyola Park Courts.
Bellarmine holds the most men's crowns with eight, and last won the title in 1996. Indianapolis and Southern Indiana follow with seven titles apiece, and last year's winner, Drury, has six titles after its 5-2 victory over UIndy in last season's title tilt. Former league member Northern Kentucky has five titles, while Rockhurst (2) and former league member SIU Edwardsville (2) are the only other schools to have earned a GLVC Men's Tennis Championship.
The women's championship final and third-place match will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Plaza Tennis Center, while the men's title match and third-place contest will take place at noon.
