Box Score Rockhurst exploded for seven goals in a 20-minute span in the second half Sunday in rolling to a 9-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Senior Day at Bourke Field.
The Hawks scored their most goals in a game since defeating Lindenwood 11-0 in an NAIA Midwest Regional game in 1996 and fell 10 goals short of the school record for goals in one game (19 vs. Grand View in 1985).
Rockhurst now holds a sizeable a two-and-a-half game lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with a 10-1-1 league record.Â
The Hawks, 10-1-2 overall, play at Lewis (Friday) and Wiscons-Parkside (Sunday) next weekend.The Hawks took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from
Chi Ngwefang and
Paul Dean.
Mitch Moncada opened the second half barrage with a goal in the 54th minute.
Kaleb Jackson scored three minutues later, followed by a goal from
Adam Michel in the 59th minute. Moncada tallied his second goal of the day in the 61st minute.
Charlie Boehm,
Drew Douglas (on a penalty kick) and
Sean Badock closed out the scoring with more than 16 minutes still left to play.
Rockhurst outshot the Pumas, 18-7. Moncada and Douglas led the Hawks with three shots. Dean, Michel and Bottoni each added two shots.
