Rockhurst drops opener at Northeastern State

Mitch Moncada and the Hawks suffered a 1-0 loss at Northeastern State Friday night.
Box Score The fourth-ranked Rockhurst Hawks opened the 2014 season with a 1-0 loss at Northeastern State Friday night in Tahlequah, Okla. The River Hawks also blanked Rockhurst, 1-0, last year in Kansas City.

Northeastern State's Jordan Schmoker scored the only goal of the night in the 26th minute on a rebound shot inside the box. The game was marred by eight yellow cards, including five issued to Rockhurst.

Both teams finished with 11 shots. Freshman Ben McDonald led the Hawks with three shots. Freshman Adam Michel added two shots. Stefano Radio made four saves in his first collegiate start for Rockhurst.

The Hawks open conference action at Saint Joseph's on Friday, Sept. 12.
