Rockhurst falls short at home against Bellarmine

Mary Dineen led the Hawks with a career-high 31 points.
Box Score Bellarmine survived a last-second shot by Rockhurst to edge the Hawks, 76-74, Sunday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. The loss dropped Rockhurst to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Rockhurst freshman Mary Dineen missed a game-tying jumper from 18 feet with three seconds left. Dineen finished with a career-high 31 points, including 21 points in the second half.

Behind a 19-4 run, Bellarmine took a 70-63 lead with 3:26 left. Dineen scored nine points in the final three minutes on two three-pointers and three free throws. Dineen's three-pointer with 45 seconds left cut Bellarmine's lead to 76-74. The Knights turned the ball over with 21 seconds left to set up Rockhurst for the final shot of the game.

Rockhurst opened the second half on a 22-9 run behind 12 points from Dineen to take a 59-51 lead with 10 minutes left in the game. Bellarmine led 42-37 at halftime behind 55-percent shooting from the field.

Bellarmine scored 30 points on second chances, as the Knights outrebounded Rockhurst 44-30. The Knights also got 21 points off 19 Rockhurst turnovers.

Lauren Meyers finished with 12 points behind three three-pointers. Kendall Hart posted nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Haleigh Cindrich added a team-high four blocked shots.


The Hawks travel to Indianapolis on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
