Hawks suffer first loss at home in nearly three years

Box Score For the first time since October of 2010, the Rockhurst men's soccer team suffered a loss at home. The sixth-ranked Hawks lost to 14th-ranked Northeastern State (Okla.), 1-0, on the hottest day of the year (101 degrees) Sunday at RU's Bourke Field.

The RiverHawks scored the winning goal with just under seven minutes left in regulation. Paul Samia found an open net on the right side from three yards out after a shot by teammate Jordan Schoker rebounded off Rockhurst senior keeper Ryan Bass.

Rockhurst went into the game with a 25-0-2 record at home since losing to Bellarmine on Oct. 10, 2010. The Hawks went undefeated at home in 2011 (12-0-1) and 2012 (10-0-1).

Nick McDonald and Paolo Scoppola led the Hawks with three shots apiece. Mark Magee and Chi Ngwefang both added two shots. Rockhurst outshot Northeastern State 16-6, including having a 7-0 advantage in the first half. Bass turned back RiverHawk shots.

The Hawks, 1-1, host Missouri S&T in their conference opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
