No. 20 Hawks roll past Illinois Springfield

Sean Verbanic scored his first goal of the season on a 22-yard shot.
Box Score Eight players contributed to four Rockhurst goals to lead the 20th-ranked Hawks to a 4-0 victory over Illinois Springfield Sunday at RU's Bourke Field.

Freshman forward Mitchell Moncada scored the first two goals to give Rockhurst a 2-0 halftime lead. Moncada's first goal from eight yards out in the 40th minute came off assists from Chi Ngwefang and George Skevington. Moncada came back a minute later to tap in a shot in front of the goals off a throw-in from Skevington.

Sean Verbanic found the back left of the nets from 22 yards out off a pass from Lucas De Rossi in the 60th minute. Austin Tierney capped the scoring with a shot from 20 yards out, assisted by Paul Dean and Oussie Gueye.

Rockhurst collected 27 shots, while holding Springfield to five shots. Mark Magee and Michael Panarisi led the Hawks with four shots apiece. Verbanic, Skevington and Nick McDonald each added three shots. Senior keeper Ryan Bass posted two saves.

The Hawks, 6-1-1 and 5-0-1, play at Truman State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4.
