Hawks meet Southern New Hampshire on Thursday

First Meeting Ever: Rockhurst makes its first appearance in the NCAA Championship Semifinals. The 14th-ranked Hawks will meet No. 1-ranked Southern New Hampshire for the first time in school history. The Rockhurst-Southern New Hampshire winner will face the winner of the second semifinal match between 12th-ranked Simon Fraser and unranked Carson-Newman in the Division II championship game at 3:00 p.m. EST on Saturday at Blanchard Wood Park in Evans, Ga.

Seven Hawks Earn All-Conference Honors: Seven players from Rockhurst were named to the 2013 All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Teams. Mark Magee and Paolo Scoppola earned All-GLVC first team honors for the third year in a row. Magee, a senior forward, leads the Hawks with 15 goals and 36 points. Scoppola, a senior midfielder, has scored 12 points on three goals and six assists. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Bass was one of three Hawks on the All-GLVC Second Team. Bass, who leads the GLVC with 12 shutouts, was a first team selection the past two years. Senior defenders Jon Schreiber and Ossuie Gueye joined Bass on the All-GLVC Second Team. Junior midfielder Lucas De Rossi and senior defender George Skevington earned spots on the All-GLVC Third Team.
 
About the Hawks: Rockhurst enters the national semifinals unbeaten in its last six games. The Hawks went undefeated in November with 5-0-1 record while capturing the GLVC Championship for the second year in a row and winning the NCAA Midwest Region title for the second time in the last three seasons. Rockhurst upset Lindenwood, the No. 1 team in the nation, in the national quarterfinals on Nov. 24. The Hawks' last four wins have been against nationally ranked teams.

Team Leaders: Rockhurst is led in scoring by senior forward Mark Magee, who has 15 goals and six assists for 36 points. Senior defender Jon Schreiber, senior forward Nick McDonald and freshman forward Mitchell Moncada are tied for second on the team with five goals apiece. Senior keeper Ryan Bass ranks third in Division II with a 0.51 goals against average to go along with 12 shutouts.

GLVC Tournament Champions: Rockhurst earned its fourth Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship. The fourth-seeded Hawks blanked second-seeded Indianapolis, 2-0, in the championship game after rallying for a 2-1 win over top-seeded Quincy in the GLVC semifinals.

Postseason History: This is Rockhurst's seventh appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament. The Hawks reached the national quarterfinals in 2002 and 2011 prior to this season. Rockhurst reached the NAIA national semifinals 11 times and lost all five of their appearances in the NAIA championship game (1967, 1973, 1976, 1979 and 1997).

Magee Earns Regional Honor: Rockhurst senior forward Mark Magee was named the Daktronics Inc. Midwest Region Player of the Year for the third year in a row. Magee ranks among the NCAA Division II national leader in goals (15) and points (36). Magee has amassed 51 goals and 131 points in his 77 career games at Rockhurst. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Bass, senior midfielder Paolo Scoppola and senior defender George Skevington received All-Region second team honors. The Daktronics All-America teams will be released on Wednesday, Dec. 4, prior to the Division II national semifinals in Evans, Ga. The All-Region and All-America teams are voted on by the sports information directors.
 
National Rankings: Rockhurst was ranked No. 14 in the final regular season NSCAA Division II poll. The Hawks have finished in the final Top 25 Division II poll eight times since becoming an NCAA member in 1998. Rockhurst was ranked in the Top 10 in each of the last two seasons.
 
Head Coach Tony Tocco: Currently in his 43rd season as the head coach at Rockhurst, Tony Tocco is the second winningest coach all-time in intercollegiate men's soccer. Tocco is only five wins behind all-time leader Jay Martin of Ohio Wesleyan. Tocco is assisted by associate head coach Giorgio Antongirolami, who was a defender for the Hawks from 1998-99.

Scouting the Penmen: Southern New Hampshire carries a 21-game unbeaten streak into the national semifinals. The Penmen are making their third semifinal trip in program history. Senor Pierre Omanga leads the team with 20 goals and three assists for 43 points. Omanga was the Northeast-10 Player of the Year. Graduate student Callum Williams leads the Penmen on defense. He was named the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the year. Senior Dom DiMaggio ranks second among Division II keepers with a 0.38 GAA.
