Rockhurst blanks Quincy in battle for first place

Box Score In a battle for the top spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, Rockhurst scored a 2-0 victory at Quincy on Sunday in the Division II Game of the Week on NSCAATV.com. The win leaves the 16th-ranked RU Hawks all alone in first place in the GLVC with a 7-0-1 record.

Freshman Chi Ngwefang scored his first collegiate goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. The goal came off a header from Jon Schreiber in the box assisted on a direct kick from Austin Tierney.

Senior forward Mark Magee scored RU's second goal in the 60th minute. Magee's team-high seventh goal of the season came on a shot inside the left post off a pass from Tierney.

Quincy outshot Rockhurst 12-11. Schreiber led the Hawks with three shots. Ngwefang and Paolo Scoppola added two shots each. Senior keeper Ryan Bass made three saves in posting his sixth shutout of the season.

The Hawks, 8-1-1 overall, return home to host Maryville on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
