Brenden Surface begins his fourth season as an assistant coach and the Offensive Coordinator for the Rockhurst University Men’s Lacrosse program. In the 2018 season, Surface helped command a potent Hawks offense that finished 3rd in the NCAA Division 2 in points per game with 15.88 and 1st in Extra-Man Offense/EMO with 45.1% success rate.
In the 2018 season Surface was a part of a Hawks staff that lead Rockhurst to a season ending national ranking in all three national polls. The Hawks finished 17th in the Herosport.com poll, 18th in the US Lacrosse/NIKE poll and 20th in the USILA Coaches Poll.
Before joining the Rockhurst staff, Surface coached high school lacrosse at Shawnee Mission East in Prairie Villiage, Kansas. Surface served a similar roll as his current one at Rockhurst, as he was an assistant coach and Offensive Coordinator for the SMEast Lancers. In his two years at East Surface was a part of a staff that won the LAKC Metro Championship in 2015 and made the LAKC Final Four in 2014. In 2015 Surface was named the LAKC Assistant Coach of the Year.
In addition to coaching at Rockhurst, Surface currently runs Team KC with fellow Rockhurst University Coaches, Kevin Kelley and Cam McCulley. Team KC is a local club program in the KC Metro area with a focus on improving lacrosse and helping high-school players potentially move on to the collegiate level.
Surface graduated from Rockhurst High School in 2009, where he played four years of lacrosse for the Hawklets. Surface still holds the single-season points record for Rockhurst High School and was named an MSLA All-American his senior year.
Surface grew up in Kansas City, MO and attended University of Kansas. In his free time Surface is a diehard Chiefs fan, loves his Royals and enjoys real estate.
