Sydney Schnarr made a Rockhurst single-game record 14 saves, while freshman forward, Jenna Roark, scored twice to lead the Hawks to a 3-2 victory over Emporia State on Wednesday (Sept. 2) afternoon in Emporia, Kansas.
All five goals in Wednesday's match came in the first half, with three goals coming within the opening five minutes.
The Hornets struck first in the second minute before Caitlyn Smith answered just 33 seconds later to level the match. Roark then scored in the fifth and 23rd minutes to give the Hawks a 3-1 advantage. Emporia State cut the deficit to 3-2 with a goal in the 40th minute.
Schnarr kept the Hornets off the scoreboard in the second half, making 11 saves after halftime to preserve the Rockhurst victory. She finished the match with 14 saves, setting a new Rockhurst single-game record.
Jacie Tottleben led the Hawks with three shots, including two on goal, while Bridget Herweck recorded two shots. Roark also finished with two shots, both converting to scores.
Rockhurst improves to 2-0-1 on the season and opens conference play Saturday (Sept. 5) at 10 a.m. against Indianapolis at Bourke Field. The match will also serve as the Hawks' 2026 home opener.
