Rockhurst University has announced the hiring of Rosemary Wiggins as the next head coach of the Hawks cheer program.

Wiggins brings nearly two decades of coaching, education and student leadership experience to Rockhurst. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for developing student-athletes while fostering a culture centered on leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and academic success.

"We are thrilled to welcome Rosemary to Rockhurst," said Director of Athletics Kristy Bayer. "Her passion for developing student-athletes, her extensive coaching experience and her commitment to building a positive team culture make her an outstanding fit for our athletics department. We are excited to see the future of our cheer program under her leadership."

Most recently, Wiggins served as the head cheer coach at Grandview High School while also teaching science. During her tenure, she directed all aspects of the program, emphasizing character, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship while helping student-athletes grow both on and off the mat.

Before leading the Grandview program, Wiggins spent seven years as the varsity assistant cheer coach at Lee's Summit High School. There, she helped develop competition routines, led conditioning programs and mentored student-athletes, contributing to a first-place finish at the 2010 Summer Regional State Competition.

Wiggins also brings collegiate coaching experience, having served as both a student assistant and assistant cheer coach at Avila University. Her background at both the high school and collegiate levels has prepared her to lead a program focused on competitive success while creating a meaningful student-athlete experience.

"I'm excited to continue building on the foundation the previous coaching staff established and help our program continue to grow and succeed," Wiggins said. "I've already had conversations with the team about our goals, and we're ready to get to work to make sure we accomplish them this year."

Wiggins believes the current roster provides an excellent foundation for the future of the program.

"This team already has so much talent," Wiggins said. "My goal is to make sure that every year this team becomes a better version of itself. I want our student-athletes to continue growing as performers, leaders and representatives of Rockhurst both on and off the sidelines."

Wiggins will oversee all aspects of the Rockhurst cheer program, including recruiting, practice planning, game-day performances, community engagement and the overall development of Hawks student-athletes.
