Hawks win GLVC Softball Tournament Championship

Fifth-seeded Rockhurst (35-19) earned its first-ever GLVC Softball Tournament Championship with a pair of wins over third-seeded and No. 15 McKendree on Saturday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois. The Hawks took Game One by a score of 2-1 to force the winner-take-all Game Two, which RU won 6-3.

Due to winning the GLVC Softball Tournament Championship, the Hawks secured the league's automatic bid to their first NCAA DII Tournament in school history. Seeding and location will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. ET./9 a.m. CT.

Game 1: RU 2, No. 15 MCK 1
Rockhurst scored both of their runs in the first with an Emily Berry two-run home run. This was Berry's first-ever postseason home run.
  • Taylor Sedam, Mya Bristow and Jazmyne Moreno all collected two hits. One of Bristow's hits was a double.
  • Sedam picked up a run scored on Berry's home run.
  • Moreno recorded a stolen base.
  • Avery Huffman (21-10) allowed an earned run on four hits and struck out three Bearcats. She also retired 14 of the last 15 batters to end the game.
Game 2: RU 6, No. 15 MCK 3
The Hawks scored once in the first and second. Rockhurst then recorded one in the sixth and three in the seventh.
  • Claire Tipton had a pinch-hit, go-ahead RBI single in the sixth that gave Rockhurst a 3-2 lead.
  • Sedam was 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Emma Reeves, Bristow and Moreno also stole a base.
  • McKenna Lester and Claire Long both tallied a pair of hits and combined for three RBI.
  • Fulk recorded an RBI single in the second.
  • Huffman (22-10) allowed three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
