Hawks drop opening game in NCAA Midwest Regional

Rockhurst dropped its opening game in the NCAA Division II Softball Tournament to McKendree, 3-2, in Thursday's Midwest Regional on the McKendree campus in Lebanon, Illinois. The Bearcats pushed across the winning run on a two-out, bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Hawks scored both of their runs in the second on run-scoring singles by Jazmyne Moreno and Taylor Sedam.

Sedam led the Hawks with two hits and a stolen base. Mya Bristow also collected a hit and scored on Moreno's single up the middle. Kaylee Pugh scored the Hawks' second run on Sedam's single to right-center.

Avery Huffman (22-11) allowed three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out five and walked six.

Rockhurst (35-20) faces the loser between sixth-seeded Missouri S&T and third-seeded Findlay in an elimination game on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
