Hawks advance to GLVC Softball Championship Final

Taylor Sedam and Claire Long combined for six hits and Avery Huffman threw her seventh shutout of the season to help advance fifth-seeded Rockhurst to its first-ever GLVC Softball Championship Game. The Hawks won 12-0 over top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Indianapolis at the GLVC Tournament Friday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.

Friday's win over the Greyhounds was the Hawks' second game of the day. Earlier on Friday, the Hawks fell to third-seeded and No. 15 McKendree in the winner's bracket game by a score of 7-2. 

Game 2: Rockhurst 12, No. 2 Indianapolis 0
The Hawks scored once in the first, four times in the third and added seven runs in the seventh.
  • Sedam (three), Long (three), Emily Berry (two), McKenna Lester (two), and Emma Reeves (two) combined for 12 hits. 
  • Eva Fulk, Sedam and Berry combined for six runs scored.
  • Berry (three) and Sedam (three) recorded six RBI.
  • Mya Bristow and Kaylee Pugh each had a stolen base.
  • Huffman (20-10) notched her 21st complete game, the second most in a single season in school history. Her 20th win of the season ties her for third-most in a single season in school history. Huffman allowed five hits and collected six strikeouts.
Game 1: No. 15 McKendree 7, Rockhurst 2
Sedam recorded an RBI single in the third and Berry picked up an RBI single in the fifth.
  • Fulk, Long and Jazmyne Moreno each collected a hit. 
  • Fulk, Lily Hance, Sedam and Moreno recorded stole bases. Fulk and Moreno both scored a run.
  • Riley Braden allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out seven batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Hawks (33-19) face third-seeded McKendree on Saturday at 10 a.m. If the Hawks win, they will face McKendree at 12:30 p.m. for the GLVC Softball Championship.
