Avery Huffman threw her sixth shutout of the season to lead fifth-seeded Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over fourth-seeded Missouri-St. Louis in the opening game of the GLVC Softball Tournament on Wednesday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.
The win was the Hawks' 31st of the season, matching the 2017 team for the most wins in a single season in program history.
Rockhurst scored in the fifth after a throwing error by the UMSL catcher, allowing Kaylee Pugh to score from third.
Emily Berry and Eva Fulk each collected two hits. Fulk also stole a base in the top of the first. Huffman (18-9) allowed four hits and struck out eight batters.
